ENGLAND — Sea Rages During Storm: Waves crash over the sea walls in Blackpool as a storm lashed the U.K. with violent storm-force winds of up to 100mph, leaving thousands of homes without power and hitting transport links on Wednesday.

GEORGIA — Governor Declares State of Emergency: Alora Freeman, 8, watches as ice builds along a downtown water fountain in Atlanta on Wednesday. A brutal winter storm scattered a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain from normally balmy north Florida up the southeast seaboard Wednesday, adding to the misery of a bitter cold snap. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency through Friday for at least 28 counties because of the frigid weather.

KASHMIR — Village Buries Local Rebel: Kashmiri village women attend the funeral of rebel Fardeen Ahamed in Hyuna on Monday. Ahamed was among three suspected militants killed Sunday after rebels stormed a paramilitary camp in disputed Kashmir, triggering a daylong battle. Five Indian soldiers were also killed in the incident.

ENGLAND – Aircraft Cleaning: The annual high-level aircraft cleaning and maintenance takes place at the RAF Cosford Museum in Shifnal, England, Tuesday. The work is carried out by a specialist cleaning company, focusing on the suspended aircraft currently displayed within the Museum’s National Cold War Exhibition. 

PERU – Bus Crash: In this photo provided by the government news agency Andina, an injured man is transported over water from a bus that fell off a cliff after it was hit by a tractor-trailer rig, in Pasamayo, Peru, Tuesday. A Peruvian police official says at least 25 people died, and that there were more than 50 people on the bus. 

JAPAN – Imperial Palace: Well-wishers wave national flags as Japan’s Emperor Akihito with his family members appears on the balcony at Imperial Palace in Tokyo Tuesday. Akihito, who is handing the Chrysanthemum Throne to his son next year, is being showered with cheers from tens of thousands of New Year’s well-wishers at the palace.
