Allen Crabbe hasn’t lived up to his offensive potential here in Brooklyn this season.

But Wednesday night in Detroit, the sharp-shooter the Nets acquired this past offseason showed glimpses of just how potent he could be.

“That’s the Allen we want,” Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson said after Crabbe poured in 19 of his career-high 34 points during the fourth quarter of Brooklyn’s 115-106 loss to the Detroit Pistons in front of 15,114 fans at Motown’s Little Caesars Arena.

“Just more aggressive, more assertive, and if that means he’s going to take a few bad shots a game, then we’re OK with that.”

Crabbe, whom the Nets coveted in restricted free agency two summers ago and finally got hold of via trade from Portland this past July, went 13-of-22 from the floor, including 6-of-14 from 3-point range.

He also grabbed a pair of rebounds and blocked a shot in 36 minutes to help keep Brooklyn in the game until newly acquired Detroit forward Blake Griffin scored nine points during a game-deciding 11-0 fourth-quarter run.

DeMarre Carroll, the subject of several rumors heading into Thursday afternoon’s trade deadline, delivered 14 points and 10 rebounds for Brooklyn (19-37). The Nets did make one minor move prior to the deadline, acquiring forward Dante Cunningham from New Orleans for guard Rashard Vaughn. Brooklyn traded for Vaughn on Monday, but his stay with the Nets was ultimately short.

Fast-emerging rookie Jarrett Allen added 13 points and 14 boards for the Nets, who went a dismal 17-of-51 from beyond the arc en route to their fourth consecutive loss and eighth in nine games.

Brooklyn will try to avoid its first five-game losing streak of the season here Saturday evening against the visiting New Orleans Pelicans.
