Seven Brooklyn teenagers are making the trip of a lifetime as part of a jazz orchestra jetting to London to perform in concert.

The local students are members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra and Big Youth Band, a group of 22 of the most musically talented teens from the tri-state area who have been chosen to learn from and play alongside some of the best names in music.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra and Big Youth Band will be performing, along with two other renowned groups of young musicians, the Guildhall Jazz Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland, at the famed Barbican Theater in London at a concert set for March 1.

The seven orchestra members who are natives of Brooklyn are Tarrel Nedderman, of the Frank Sinatra School of Arts; Mattelyn Moses, also of the Frank Sinatra School of Arts; Chalie Stamm, of the Frank Sinatra School of Arts; Andray Bowman, of Talent Unlimited; James Haddad, of Saint Ann’s School; Miles Keingstein, of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School; and Marvin Carter, also of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School.

The teens, who left New York to fly to London on Feb. 25, didn’t wait to get to England to start getting ready for the big concert. The students had a jam session at JFK International Airport while waiting to board their flight.

Wynton Marsalis, the Grammy Award-winning musician who serves as the creative director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, will be in London with the students.

The March 1 concert is just one part of the musical journey the Americans are taking.

The students will also get the chance to get to know their British and Scottish peers by taking part in a cultural exchange program designed to give the teens the chance to learn about one another’s countries. In addition, the Americans and their counterparts will share their ideas on the future of jazz.

During their stay, the talented teens will be visiting and playing at several schools in London.

The Barbican Theatre concert will mark a milestone for Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra and Youth Big Band. It will be the group’s first major concert overseas.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra and Big Youth Band was organized to help exceptionally talented musicians with their education by providing them with the opportunity to train under great jazz artists and educators.
