Landlord charged with evicting tenants using dead notary signature
A Bedford-Stuyvesant landlord was busted on multiple forgery counts for trying to evict his tenants using a dead notary’s signature on public documents, the district attorney announced Monday.
In filing civil suits against his five 455 Tompkins Ave. tenants for claiming they damaged his property, Abdus Shahid allegedly used the stamp and signature of public notary, Yitzchok Ring, who died the year before filing, according to a district attorney statement.
A Legal Aid Society attorney for the tenants, who claimed Shahid was trying to evict them for filing 311 complaints against him, discovered the signature on the documents filed between March 16, 2015 and September 8, 2016.
