After serving as chief of the National Security and Cybercrime section of the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York (EDNY), Seth DuCharme has been appointed to Chief of the Criminal Division, officials announced on Thursday.

DuCharme, who began his new position on March 1, has an extensive history prosecuting a wide variety of high-profile cases for the office in his background.

He joined the office in March 2008 to serve in the General Crimes, Violent Crimes, Terrorism and National Security, and Cybercrime sections. DuCharme also worked as a national security cyber specialist and a representative on the department’s Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council.

In the courtroom, DuCharme personally prosecuted two Brooklyn residents who traveled to the Middle East to kill American soldiers as well as a trio of trained suicide bombers while also neutralizing threats to the U.S. during the rise of ISIS in 2014.

In the violent crime area, he secured gang convictions that included a prominent drug ring that operated out of a Brooklyn neighborhood.

The prosecutor started his law career after graduating from Fordham University School of Law in 2003 and becoming an associate of the firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, LLP. Before making his way to the EDNY, he served as a deputy U.S. marshal in the Southern District of New York.
