Good morning. Today is the 163rd day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of June 11, 1901, carried the headline, “Brooklynite Ends His Life in a Chicago Office.” The subhead revealed that F.C. Steinemann, who was “connected with a New York firm,” acted in a “jovial manner,” minutes before he slit his own throat.

Well-known people who were born today include actor Peter Bergman, actor Hugh Laurie (“House”), former auto racer Jackie Stewart and actor Gene Wilder (“The Producers,” “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” “Blazing Saddles”).

Today at 10:30 a.m., state Sen. Daniel Squadron (D-Downtown Brooklyn), together with local community and business leaders and MTA officials, will hold a press conference at the Bedford Avenue station of the L train to announce increased service on the L train. Local officials and residents have called for more service on the line for years, due to skyrocketing ridership.
