Good morning. Today is the 164th day of the year. On this day in 1902, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported that police in Binghamton, N.Y., had captured one Charles Brawley, wanted for “buncoing,” or cheating, a stockbroker. Apparently, Brawley had told the broker that he had won a won a lottery prize, but that the broker would have to lay out money first. The article continued that Brawley had run the same con game on another person in Brooklyn.

Well-known people who were born today include baseball player Hideki Matsui, singer Vic Damone (“On the Street Where You Live”), musician Chick Corea, former President George H.W. Bush and sportscaster Marv Albert.
