Did you know that A&S once had a candy store? The ad calls attention to “the best ice creams, ices and frappes in town.”

Today at 2 p.m., the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division will visit Lutheran Medical Center to present gifts to Lutheran’s newborns and meet staff. The occasion is the 237th birthday of the Army. … The Brooklyn Jazz Underground will hold its Sixth Annual Festival tonight at 8 p.m. at IBeam at 168 Seventh St. in Park Slope. The concert will feature sax player Adam Kolker, the Tammy Scheffer Sextet and the David Cook Trio. … Tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Union Hall, 702 Union St., Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes will read from James Joyce’s “Ulysses” at the third annual Bloomsday event. Appropriately, he will portray the character “Joe Hynes.”
