Good morning. Today is the 172nd day of the year. On this day in June 20, 1902, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle carried an article with the headline, “Tilden Democrats to challenge Tammany Hall: Many Brooklyn leaders involved.” The Tilden Democratic Club, named after former presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden, was formed to combat the corrupt Tammany Hall Democratic machine in Manhattan. Tilden High School in Brooklyn was later named after Tilden as well.

Well-known people who were born today include actor Danny Aiello (“Do the Right Thing”), actress Nicole Kidman (“Cold Mountain,” “The Hours”), singer Anne Murray (“Snowbird”), pianist Andre Watts, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and Brooklyn singer Cyndi Lauper (“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”).
