Good morning. Today is the 212th day of the year. One of the headlines for the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of July 30, 1902, read, “Hebrews in Two Riots.” During the funeral procession on the Lower East Side for Chief Rabbi Jacob Joseph, “the head of the Orthodox Jews of North America,” employees of a printing plant threw water balloons at the mourners. After they crossed the Williamsburg Bridge on their way to the cemetery, someone on Kent Avenue threw a heavy block of wood at them. The mourners, enraged, tried to push their way into both buildings, and police had to intervene.

Well-known people who were born today include producer/director Peter Bogdonavich (“The Last Picture Show,”’Paper Moon”), singer-songwriter Kate Bush, actor Edd Byrnes (“77 Sunset Strip”), singer-songwriter Paul Anka (“You’re Having My Baby,” “My Way”) and basketball coach Bill Cartwright.
