Good morning. Today is the 262nd day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of September 18, 1902, reported that for several months, officers had found that articles of jewelry and clothing were missing, without being able to trace the thefts. After an investigation, Private James Welkman, who had been in the Navy for 13 years, was arrested, and $50,000 worth of rare coins, jewelry and other items were found in his trunk.

Well-known people who were born today include singer Frankie Avalon, Hall of Fame baseball player and manager Robert Sandberg, actor Robert Blake Baretta (“In Cold Blood”), and actress Jada Pinkett Smith (“The Nutty Professor”).
