Concessionaires sought for Smokestack Bldg, Pier 6 sites in Brooklyn Bridge Park

Brooklyn Bridge Park released two Requests for Proposals (RFPs) yesterday for food concessionaires at Pier 6/Atlantic Avenue and in the Smokestack Building at Water Street and Old Fulton Street in Fulton Ferry Landing on the edge of DUMBO.

The concessionaire will“lease, fit out, operate and maintain high quality concessions” at the two sites, according to the notice.

An information session and site tour is planned for both on Wednesday, Nov. 7, with final proposals due on Monday, Dec. 3.

Pier 6/Atlantic Avenue

A restaurant concession is sought for Pier 6, known as the park’s southern gateway,

which is already attracting thousands of visitors to its playground, sand volleyball courts, waterfront promenades and dog run.

The 2,000-square-foot restaurant will also have an adjacent outdoor terrace of 1,200 square feet and a 2,800- square-foot rooftop seating area and an optional food cart for the terrace area. The building also contains public restrooms.

Smokestack Building

A snack bar concession is sought for the Smokestack Building, aka the boiler house, which was previously part of the Purchase Building property.

This concession includes approximately 450 square feet of interior space with two walk-up ordering windows and the potential for outdoor seating.

As the Eagle reported last year, Fulton Ferry Landing’s historic Purchase Building was demolished in 2008 to make room for a Brooklyn Bridge Park plaza, but its unique boiler house (Smokestack Building) was preserved and revamped to house a food concession.

It is in an area that has become a popular tourist des- tination, with Jane’s Carousel and the location of many of the park’s special events and programs.
