Jim Ferry gushed about Jason Brickman after the 5-foot-10 point guard helped LIU-Brooklyn return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 14 years last March during his dynamic freshman campaign.

The Blackbirds’ head men’s basketball coach also noted, however, that the second time around isn’t normally quite as easy for a breakout player.

Sweet Revenge!

Getting a little tired of Lin-sanity?

So was Deron Williams. So he went out and did something about it.

The New Jersey Nets’ All-Star point guard, who was the unwitting first victim during Jeremy Lin’s meteoric and improbable rise to superstardom on Feb. 4, exacted a measure of revenge against the Knicks’ boy wonder during a 100-92 victory at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

Ashley Palmer and the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds are doing what great players and title-hungry teams do as the regular season winds down.

They’re peaking.

Palmer, already the leading scorer in LIU women’s basketball history, amassed 25 points and seven rebounds Wednesday night at Remsen Street’s Pope Center to bring home a 60-53 victory over neighborhood rival St. Francis and the coveted Battle of Brooklyn MVP award for the second straight year.

Who’s No. 1?

Entering this month’s Public School Athletic League playoffs, the answer indisputably and unequivocally is Jefferson.

Winners of 10 straight games, including Saturday’s Brooklyn Borough Championship triumph over defending two-time city title-holder Boys and Girls, the Orange Wave (12-2 Brooklyn AA) has overtaken perennial PSAL powerhouses Lincoln and B&G as the team to beat not just in Brooklyn but the entire city.

As the top overall seed, Jefferson enjoyed a bye during Wednesday’s PSAL playoff openers across the five boroughs.

How Many Jeremy Lins Have We Missed?

By Eddie Mayrose

It’s a timeless tradition. Every kid on a playground, no matter how old, imagines he’s draining the jumper that wins the NBA championship. For me, and my oldest buddy, Bobby Carr, it was the shot that catapulted the Knicks to the title. It helped that Bobby could do a dead-on impression of Madison Square Garden’s legendary P.A. announcer, John Condon. “That was Bobby Carr. New York leads 67-62.”

Work Continues on Barclays Center

Construction continues on the Barclays Center sports and entertainment complex in Downtown Brooklyn, which, as regular readers of this newspaper know, will be home to the Brooklyn Nets basketball team when it opens this fall. Other planned events include a series of concerts by Jay-Z, a college basketball tournament, a concert by opera singer Andrea Bocelli and a preseason New York Islanders-New Jersey Devils hockey game. This photo was taken earlier this month.

Jamal Olasewere’s dunk made SportsCenter’s top 10 plays Sunday night, but for the LIU-Brooklyn forward, beating neighborhood rival St. Francis College was much more important than gaining some national exposure for his aerial display.

Can’t wait for the rematch!

Arguably the biggest game ever in the Battle of Brooklyn rivalry lived up to the hype Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden as first-place LIU-Brooklyn held on for an 86-77 victory over Downtown neighbor St. Francis College before a crowd of 7,618 fans at ‘The World’s Most Famous Arena.’
