Columbian and Catholic Lawyers host Red Mass
The Kings County chapter of the Catholic Lawyers Guild and the Columbian Lawyers Association of Brooklyn got together for Red Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. James in Downtown Brooklyn on Thursday.
The Red Mass goes back to 1245 when it was first celebrated in Paris. It is a gathering of judges, lawyers and other members of the legal community to reflect on the God-given power and responsibility of the legal profession.
“It’s a spiritual sharing and the blessing of the beginning of the judicial cycle,” said Hon. Lizette Colon, president of the Catholic Lawyers Association. “It’s a long tradition and a blessing of the papal judiciary because they have their own Vatican judiciary. What we try to do is instill fellowship and sharing among the different religions and different bar associations. We try to get everyone involved.”
