The 84th Precinct Community Council honored two NYPD officers, Gustavo Jaramillo and Alex Guess, with its Cop of the Month award, for their role in the arrest of a perp responsible for multiple motorcycle thefts at its most recent meeting at Congregation Mount Sinai in Brooklyn Heights last Tuesday.

“Due to the keen observations and proper tactics in apprehending a Motorcycle thief recidivist, Officer Gustavo Jaramillo and Alex Guess are designated Cops of the Month,” Community Council President Leslie Lewis proclaimed.

Officers Jaramillo and Guess were assigned to traffic enforcement at Tillary and Gold streets on Oct. 15 when they spotted a motorcycle being operated without a license plate. When they attempted to stop the motorcycle, its operator fled down Gold Street with Jaramillo and Guess following on foot.

Little did the perp realize, but he was running toward the 84th Precinct stationhouse where Officer Eric Dileonardo was able to assist Jaramillo and Guess in apprehending the suspect. It turns out the motorcycle was reported stolen out of the 94th Precinct a few days earlier. When questioned, the suspect admitted to stealing four additional motorcycles in Brooklyn. He has been charged of all the thefts and is in jail awaiting trial.

The 84th Precinct Community Council meetings take place on the third Thursday of each month. The meetings are a place to get crime updates for the area and to ask questions or raise issues with Capt. Sergio Centa. Meeting locations change each month, so contact the 84th Precinct’s community affairs officer for information at 718-875-6850.
