Adelphi Academy auction draws plenty of bidders

Guests had the opportunity to bid on memorabilia pertaining to Hollywood and the worlds of sports, politics and music as Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn hosted its annual Fall Auction of Fine Art, Cigar Night & Cocktail Reception on a recent Thursday.

The event, which served as a fundraiser for the private school at 8515 Ridge Boulevard in Bay Ridge, also featured fine art, jewelry and goods and services provided by Adelphi’s longtime partner, RSI Fundraising Auctions.

Among the many guests in attendance at the standing room only event were business leaders including Merchants of Third Avenue President Robert Howe, who sat front and center for the auction.

The crowds came to Adelphi early for the Cigar Night & Cocktail Reception, during which members of Adelphi’s senior class and Student Advisory Board served as waiter and waitresses, offering guests hors d’oeuvres and wine and cheese. There was also a fresh cigar roller and a live pianist to add to the ambience of the evening.

The auction preview began at 6 p.m. to give guests a chance to view the items up for bid. The bidding began promptly at 7 p.m. A highlight of the evening, according to school officials, was the auctioning of original artwork created by Adelphi students. Proud parents were feverishly to bidding to make sure they were able to take many of works home while at the same time supporting Adelphi.

“This year’s Fall Auction of Fine Art was one of our most successful fundraising events at Adelphi to date,” said Iphigenia Romanos, Adelphi’s head of school. “The enormous crowd of art aficionados and local business leaders who came to support the event is a testament to Adelphi’s place as a leader in the Bay Ridge community, a position we value greatly in our 50th year as a Bay Ridge resident.”

The school was established in 1863 in Downtown Brooklyn and moved to Bay Ridge 50 years ago.

“As we mark 50 years as a contributing member of the historic Bay Ridge community, it’s extremely satisfying to see so many people come out to support our events,” said Director of Academy Operations Albert C. Corhan.
