“A New Day in America,” St. Francis College professor Theo Black Gangi’s newest work, begins with a father’s quest to save his daughter in a post-apocalyptic world. The story takes place one year after a devastating bomb killed millions and follows a former Special Forces operator as he struggles to survive and protect his young daughter.

The Clinton Hill-based author will present a reading at 5 p.m. on March 11 at SFC’s Maroney Forum for Arts, Culture & Education (180 Remsen St. in Brooklyn Heights).  The event is free and open to the public.

“For me, ‘A New Day in America’ and the post-apocalyptic genre is interesting because the stories pose an alternate world of worst-case-scenarios and ‘Sophie’s choices,’” Gangi said. “We know who we are when supported by our set structures. Apocalyptic literature asks: Who are we when that security is gone?”

The protagonist, Nostradamus Greene, faces loss, waging war against scavengers and a dangerous virus, among other obstacles.

“Theo Gangi’s ‘A New Day in America’ grabs hold and won’t let go. A brilliant and heartbreaking white-knuckle ride,” writes The New York Times bestselling author Adam Mansbach.

Booklist writes, “Gangi definitely out-twists them all.”

More of Gangi’s work can be read on his blog at theogangi.com.
