ON THIS DAY in 1915, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Maltbie Demands Showdown in P.S.C. on Use of City Autos.”

The article focused on a debate between a public service commissioner and colonel, regarding whether or not the commissioner was using city automobiles for private use.  As the debate concluded, it turned out that the commissioner paid for the automobile.

“Public Service Commissioner Milo R. Maltbie made a boomerang out of Col. Hayward’s attempts to show that he had used the Commission’s automobiles for private use today,” the Eagle reported.
