WOODBURY, N.Y.— Nassau County plans to build a new practice facility and corporate offices for the New York Islanders.

County Executive Edward Mangano announced the plans Wednesday even as the team moves to Brooklyn.

The Islanders signed a 25-year contract in 2012 to play at the Barclays Center beginning in the 2015-16 season.

According to Newsday, Mangano says the project will “provide hope” of the team’s full-time return to the county after Nassau Coliseum undergoes an 18-month renovation.

The Islanders’ corporate office is now in the Coliseum, which will close for the privately-funded renovations starting this summer.

The team practices at Islanders Iceworks in Syosset. County officials said the site is outdated.
