Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 107th day of the year.

The article focused on a wrongfully accused Brooklynite starting the pardoning process required to be released from jail.
“After serving eight years of a 15-year sentence as ‘Milwaukee Red,’ a famous Western crook, Joseph Brennan, a Brooklyn young man, has now proved himself to have been the victim of a mistake in identity and within a few days his pardon will be recommended to the consideration of the state Senate,” the Eagle reported.

TODAY IS VERRAZZANO DAY. This holiday celebrates the discovery of the New York harbor by Giovanni da Verrazzano, a Florentine navigator, 1485-1527. Explorer Verrazzano is the namesake of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. The spelling of the explorer’s last name, which originally contained two Zs, was changed to one Z for the spelling of the bridge.
“PARTY FOR A PARKINSON’S CURE” will take place on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at The Diamond in Greenpoint. The event is free, but 100 percent of donations go toward supporting research to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. The fundraiser is organized by a Parkinson’s Unity Walk team. New York City’s most populous borough, Brooklyn, is home to nearly 2.6 million residents. If Brooklyn were an independent city it would be the fourth largest city in the United States. While Brooklyn has become the epitome of ‘cool and hip’ in recent years, for those that were born here, raised families here and improved communities over the years, Brooklyn has never been ‘uncool’.
