Here is a look at the final high school power rankings for the 2014-15 season.

Girls Basketball

1. South Shore (23-6, 17-1): After making it to the finals five times under head coach Anwar Gladden, South Shore finally won its first PSAL city title. It’ll be tough to repeat next year without All-Brooklyn MVP Brianna Fraser, but Gladden is determined to get back to the state playoffs now that he’s had a taste.

2. Grand Street (17-7, 15-2): Grand Street surprised many by getting to the PSAL finals, but the team’s success should not have been shocking. All-Brooklyn junior Shanique Edwards is one of the best players in the city, and she was surrounded with some great talent.

3. Bishop Loughlin (15-5, 8-3): Bishop Loughlin looked like a really strong team at times this season, but its mostly young squad ultimately fell short in the playoffs. With its talent, though, it could be the best team in the borough next year.

4. Nazareth (5-16, 2-9): There is no doubt that it was a tough season for the Lady Kingsmen, but they did a nice job salvaging it with a New York State Federation Class A championship. With that experience, hopefully they can rebound next year.

5. St. Edmund Prep (17-3, 13-1): St. Edmund Prep barely missed out on a perfect regular season, but did successfully take the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) A-division crown.

Boys Basketball

1. Xaverian (22-7 overall, 11-5 vs. league opponents): Xaverian came a couple of bad possessions away from beating Christ the King to win the CHSAA’s city championship. This was the most well-rounded boys team in Brooklyn, with three stars and a deep bench of role players.

2. Jefferson (26-4, 18-2): Jefferson had the All-Brooklyn MVP in Shamorie Ponds, but never really came together as a cohesive unit and lost to the eventual state champion Wings Academy in the Public School Athletic League’s semifinals.

3. Lincoln (25-4, 16-3): Lincoln was probably a more well-rounded team than Jefferson, but with such young players, it didn’t have enough experience to win big games. Lincoln lost in the Borough Playoffs and then was knocked out in the PSAL quarterfinals.

4. Boys and Girls (18-9, 11-8): Lots of talent and even more heart, this defensive-minded team showed that it can hang with the best in the city. With All-Brooklyn guard Gianni Ford set to become a senior next year, perhaps it can take the next step.

5. Bedford Academy (25-2, 18-2): An A-team that played well enough to challenge Jefferson in the Borough Playoffs, Bedford Academy fell in the PSAL A semifinals to Springfield Gardens. It’ll be back next year with All-Brooklyn Anthony Munson leading the way.
