Brooklyn College to graduate more than 4,000 at 90th commencement exercises

Brooklyn College will celebrate its 90th commencement exercises on May 27 with more than 4,000 graduating students.

Two master’s degree ceremonies will be held at 1:45 and 6:45 p.m. on May 27, while the bachelor’s degree ceremony will take place on May 28 at 9:30 a.m. Both ceremonies will take place at the Walt Whitman Theater, 2900 Bedford Ave., on Brooklyn College’s Midwood campus. 

Barry Salzberg ’74, the baccalaureate commencement speaker and the recipient of a Doctor of Humane Letters, is the global CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, the world’s largest professional service network. Dr. Rebecca Fuhrer ’67 will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award at the baccalaureate ceremony for her dedication to public health and her outstanding career as epidemiologist in Canada. Diana Rogovin Davidow ’66, ’73 M.S., a leader in the field of speech pathology, will receive the Presidential Medal.

Keynoting the master’s ceremonies are David Amram, composer and former musical director of the Lincoln Center Theater, and Dr. Leon Glass ’63, one of the world’s leading theoretical biologists. Amram, who started his professional life playing the French horn for the jazz bands of Charlie Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie and Lionel Hampton, will receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree. Glass will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award for his studies on using physics and mathematics to understand the complex physiological phenomena that occur with certain human ailments.

The valedictorian for the class of 2015 is Joshua Varghese Kurian, who will receive a B.A. in psychology and is a student in the coordinated B.A.-M.D. program. He has been on the Dean’s List every semester. Salutatorian Gisely Colón-López will receive a B.A. in Puerto Rican and Latino studies. Both Kurian and Colón-López will address the class of 2015.
