ON THIS DAY IN 1933, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Goodby Home Brew! Maker Arrested Under State Law.”

The article focused on the first New York state citizen, Benjamin Purno of Queens, to be held in violation of the state liquor law for brewing beer without a license.

“Assistant United States Attorney Louis Aldino said that in view of the fact that Furno was merely making home-brew, the Federal charge would not be pressed,” the Eagle reported.
