Mayor Bill de Blasio said he planned to celebrate the Supreme Court decision by performing two marriages on the steps of City Hall.

“We just heard the momentous news from the Supreme Court: Marriage equality is now the law of the land! Today is a joyous day for all Americans – one that we have awaited for far too long. Let’s not wait one day more. Today at 2 p.m. on the steps of City Hall, I will officiate the marriages of Katrina and Sarah and of Denise and Cindy. They will make history as two of the first couples to exchange their vows with marriage equality as the law of not just our state, but of the entire country,” de Blasio said in a statement.
