What do we think of when we think of Wythe Avenue?

The Wythe Hotel. Brooklyn Bowl. Restaurants such as Rosarito Fish Shack and 12 Chairs Café. Heatonist, a shop devoted entirely to selling hot sauces.

Now we’re adding a new place to our list of interesting things on this Williamsburg avenue: The building under construction on the corner of Wythe Avenue and Grand Street.

The property, which uses 79 Grand St. as its address, caught our eye the other day when we took a ferry ride to the neighborhood.

Elizabeth Barbara Hitz is the developer of what will be a mixed-use six-story building with five apartments plus commercial space. She’s a managing member of an LLC that bought the site for $2.1 million in 2012, city Finance Department records indicate.

Hitz is an intriguing developer. According to biographical material we found online, she was born in America but her family has its roots in Switzerland. She graduated from the Ecole Supérieure d’Art Visuel in Geneva. She worked as an artist in Europe before settling in New York City in the 1990s.

Hitz got into real estate by buying an apartment building in Harlem in 1997. A Williamsburg condo development she built a few years ago, 100 N3 Lofts, is located at 100 N. 3rd St.
