Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 223rd day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1912, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Splinter Causes Death.”

The article focused on a 65-year-old New Jersey man who died from “a bit of wood.”

“Charles Frederick Harrison died in a hospital here today from blood poisoning caused by a splinter that entered his hand several months ago,” the Eagle reported.
