The Brooklyn Heights Clergy Association holds its annual September 11 Commemoration service Thursday, Sept. 10, starting at 7:30 p.m.  This brief service has taken place every year since the terror attacks on that date in 2001. This year, the night Sept. 11 falls on Shabbat and the commemoration service is being held on Sept. 10 so that all may attend. In the event of rain, the service will be moved to Grace Church, on Hicks St., between Grace Court and Joralemon St. Scattered thunderstorms are being forecast through midnight, according to the Weather Channel, last checked at 1:45 p.m.

Separately from this event, Grace Church will also hold its annual Sept. 11 Requiem Eucharist on Friday at 7:30 a.m.

Assumption Roman Catholic Church is also holding its annual 9-11 Mass of Remembrance for the firemen at the Engine Co. 205/Hook and Ladder 118 firehouse on Middagh Street. The church is an immediate neighbor to the firehouse, and the two share a close relationship.

All of the firefighters on duty at 205 and 118 on Sept. 11, 2001 lost their lives at the World Trade Center. As they helped rescue victims, the towers fell. Fr. Mychal Judge, a Franciscan priest who was administering last rites to the victims, was also killed when the towers fell.

The 10:45 a.m. Mass will honor Fr. Judge and the eight firefighters from Engine 205/Hook & Ladder 118: Captain Martin J. Egan, Lt. Robert Wallace, Lt. Robert Regan, Firefighter Vernon Cherry, FF Leon Smith, FF Joseph Agnello, FF Peter Vega and FF Scott Davidson.
