Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 264th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1918, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Draft Marriages After August 5 No Bar to Service.”

The article focused on a new rule that held marriages after a certain date should be disregarded when considering who can be exempt of the draft.

“The fact of dependency resulting from the marriage of a registrant of the class of September, 1918, who has married since the date of the introduction in Congress of the act requiring his registration, to wit… will be disregarded as a ground for deferred classification,” the Eagle reported.
