Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 29th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1907, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Explosion in Navy Yard.”

The article focused on hot slag filling into water at the Navy Yard, causing painful injuries to two Brooklyn men.

“Not even the cupola at which the explosion occurred was damaged in the least,” the Eagle reported. “A few panes of broken glass were all the evidence that could be found this morning in the foundry that there had been an explosion a few hours before.”
