William Pyles Jr., 93, of Brooklyn, NY, formerly of Midland, died Sunday afternoon, November 6, 2016 in Brooklyn. He was born August 31, 1923 in Flint, Michigan, son of the late William and HenryEtta (Baker) Pyles Sr. Mr. Pyles was a 1945 graduate of Central Michigan University where he received his B.A Degree. He also graduated from Garrett Theological Seminary in 1948 with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree and later received is Masters of Arts degree from NY University School of Education in 1955. He also attended City College in New York City from 1957-1960 and New School from 1970-1971. He served his country with the U.S. Navy from November 18, 1942 until his discharge from active duty on December 24, 1945. Mr. Pyles taught in the New York Public Schools at PS 29 in Brooklyn from 1965-1970 and at PS 41 from 1970 until 1989. He was a painter, poet, singer-song writer, and collector of family history.

Surviving is his sister, HenryEtta Pyles Hartwick, and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and other loving extended family members and loving friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pyles was predeceased by his siblings, Howard, Pearl Huey, Glen, Ken, Ron, Agnes, Alice, Aileen, Chuck, ClaraBelle, Dave and Eleanor.

In honoring Mr. Pyles request, cremation has taken place. Graveside Memorial Services will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 27, 2016 in the Homer Township Cemetery in Midland with a luncheon gathering at the Homer United Methodist Church immediately following at 2 p.m. Inurnment for Mr. Pyles took place privately on Saturday November 26th with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors, 1200 West Wheeler St. Midland, MI 48640.
