The annual Falun Gong conference is expected to bring upwards of 9,000 practitioners from around the world to Barclays Center this weekend.

As part of a weekend of activities — including a march over the Brooklyn Bridge and a parade in Manhattan’s Chinatown – the members shown here performed slow exercises in Brooklyn’s Cadman Plaza Park on Thursday. Similar exercises took place in Union Square in Manhattan.

Brooklyn resident Gwendolyn Weldon said that practitioners are flying in from Taiwan, Canada and other countries for Sunday’s conference. The purpose of the weekend is to “bring awareness to the public,” she said.
