Police responding to a 911 call found a 23-year-old woman, an employee of the Fornino pizza restaurant, on a sidewalk in Brooklyn Bridge Park around 9:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say Michelle Marks of Brooklyn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say registered sex offender Lamont Wright, 53, was taken into custody for questioning on Tuesday afternoon in connection with the murder, according to New York’s PIX11. Wright has 15 priors, including rape, and Marks had intentions of obtaining an order of protection against him this week. No charges were named against Wright at press time.

Marks missed her bus and was waiting for another to come as she got on the phone with her new boyfriend, Samuel Hall, police sources told the Daily News. “I just want to talk to you,” Wright was heard saying before the shooting, cops said.

Wright was often abusive, Marks’ mother, Pauline Marks, told the News.

At a meeting of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corp. board of directors on Tuesday, park President Regina Myer said, “Last night at approximately 9:30 p.m. a 23-year old female was shot and killed inside Brooklyn Bridge Park near the Atlantic Ave. entrance to Pier 6. Police believe the shooting was the result of an ongoing domestic dispute. The victim did work at a location inside the park, and was confronted after she left work.”

Myer added, “On a very personal note … we are all devastated by this news.”

The shooting appears to be unrelated to recent violent incidents involving large groups of youth gathering at Pier 2 in the park.

Park staff said they would continue to work to make the park as safe as possible.
