Free ‘Arts in the Gardens’ events return to Brooklyn community gardens
BAM and NY Restoration Project Collaborate on Music and Film Series
Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) has announced that its Arts in the Gardens series — a collaboration with New York Restoration Project (NYRP) — has returned for the third year with a varied lineup of free, family-friendly events.
The program highlights include Garden Grooves — the eclectic music series featuring local artists — and the Classic Movie Nights — a film series curated by BAMcinématek, featuring such classic Hollywood dynamos as Sidney Poitier, Barbara Stanwyck and Kirk Douglas.
“Making the arts accessible is integral to BAM’s mission,” says BAM President Katy Clark. “Our partnership with NYRP, featuring free programs in Brooklyn’s public gardens, provides a wonderful way for us to meet and connect with our neighbors in new locations.”
This year’s events take place in four different gardens in Bedford-Stuyvesant —Greene Acres Community Garden, Bedford-Stuyvesant Community Garden, Target Community Garden and Jane Bailey Memorial Garden. Arts in the Gardens also includes programming in Manhattan and the Bronx.
