Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 207th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1908, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Women Hoot Policemen at Rieg Girl’s Funeral.”

The article focused on a police officer who was charged with the murder of a young girl, and who was receiving special treatment and protection by law enforcement officials during his trial.

“The temper of the people who live in the neighborhood where Barbara Rieg lived was shown this morning at the girl’s funeral, when several women hooted the police who had been detailed to the procession and openly denounced them,” the Eagle reported.
