Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 224th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1918, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Brooklyn Men Held for Harbor Thefts.”

The article focused on the federal government and the district attorney aiming to break up gangs of harbor thieves.

“Assistant District Attorney Alexander Rorke at the time three defendants were arraigned also gave out the names of eight other men who have been indicted and held for grand larceny and receiving stolen goods,” the Eagle reported. “He declared that there were many thefts from cars and lighters in the harbor.”
