“There is no such thing as not voting. If you stay at home and refrain, you tacitly double the vote of someone else.”

Brooklyn Daily Eagle publisher Dozier Hasty says that quote is one of his favorites because “it reminds us that political forces are always in play.”

These feelings, shared by the Eagle staff, are the impetus behind a renewed effort to expand coverage of legislators and legislative issues important to our readers in communities across Brooklyn.

In late October, the Eagle will publish a comprehensive report and analysis of the people elected to run government and politics in the borough.

This stand-alone print Legislative Guide will feature interviews with numerous office-holders representing Brooklyn, as well as other original coverage.

A sneak preview of this report will be released at a breakfast, hosting some of Brooklyn’s most prominent government, community and business leaders, to be held at BRIC Arts Media Center, 647 Fulton St., on Friday, Sept. 16, from 8-to-10 a.m.

Featured speakers at the free, by-registration-only event will include Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, New York City Public Advocate Letitia James, New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer, Kings County District Attorney Ken Thompson, New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and BRIC President Leslie Schultz, among others.

From the vantage point of the highest elected offices, they will share their insights on the borough that one of them calls “the king of economic growth in New York City,” that another hails as “home to the highest number of New York City employees,” and still another cherishes as “a safe and desirable place for all to enjoy, now and in the future.”
