Following the Jan. 18 grand opening of Brooklyn’s second Fairway Market, the Brooklyn Eagle spoke with Fairway General Manager Oumar Cisse about the new store located at 2149 Ralph St. in the Georgetown Shopping Center. He described it as the model for all future Fairways to come.

Cisse explained that this Fairway is a little different from the Red Hook location. “This store is a little smaller in square footage. The floor is different, the sign is different, so this is going to be the new face of Fairway. All the new Fairways will look like this one.” Cisse also shared his hopes that there will be future stores opening in the borough.

The new Fairway now stands in the space formerly occupied by Waldbaum’s supermarket, which closed its doors more than a year ago.

The spacious new Georgetown location offers customers a unique shopping experience with many exclusive new features.

“We are very excited to open this second location in Brooklyn,” Cisse said. “We saw during the grand opening that there is a lot of excitement from the local community, and we are just as excited as they are.”

Cisse gave the Eagle a tour of the store, saying, “We have everything from caviar to paper towels. We have a little bit of everything for everybody.”

Fairway Markets are renowned for their fresh fruit and produce sections, their fish and meat stations and what Cisse called his favorite place — the cheese department.

“I’m a cheese fanatic. If you’re looking for some of the best imported cheese in the world, it’s here. They have every type of cheese you could imagine. And it’s always fresh,” shopper Joseph Jones said.

Cisse showed us the coffee department, where 98 unique blends are roasted in-house. He added that the Fairway coffee buyer travels the world over searching for the finest coffee beans.

He also spoke about this week’s 10-for-$10 bakery promotion, where customers can mix and match 10 freshly baked products for $10.

Cisse hoped the store would help revive the Georgetown Shopping Center and said that he could not wait for the community to come visit the new store and make it their primary shopping destination.
