It was a remarkable match-up that pitted some of New York’s finest against top athletic students from a prestigious Brooklyn middle school.

On Wednesday, Jan.18, Mark Twain-Intermediate School 239 hosted a basketball game between police officers from the 60th precinct and the eighth grade (8G) athletic talent students. The basketball game took place after school.

The competition was part of a planned program that captures the spirit of community outreach.  Other events are being planned, including one in which the 8G competes against members from the local Fire Department.

Mark Twain is an intermediate school for the gifted and talented. It boasts high academic achievement with its strong talent and sports programs. It is considered one of the best public middle schools in Brooklyn.

The 8G athletics talent students versus the 60th precinct game drew an enthusiastic crowd, and although Police Officer Odalis Rodriguez hit many three-pointers, the students were still able to win 61-56.
