Every Brooklynite has his or her own unique way of protesting an issue they’re passionate about. Some like to march. Others write letters. Many prefer to party.

And partying is exactly what is slated to occur on Thursday night at The Graham bar in Williamsburg where 100 percent of door donations and bar sales will be donated to the Planned Parenthood of New York City Action Fund.

Partying and dancing, after all, offers consoling, healing and refuge to young adults looking to escape reality and the everyday problems of society. It brings people together and reminds everyone of the power that music has to unite in the wake of chaos.

On sweaty dancefloors across the borough, Brooklynites dance to forget, dance to celebrate and dance to remind them of what is important in life. And during a time when the nation is experiencing an overwhelming amount of young people who are actively demonstrating, marching and protesting, the party could not be more appropriate.

“With everything happening with the political landscape, the Trump administration and the GOP threatening funding and rights, [The Graham] wants to show our support for just a few of the organizations that are vital to the values we hold strongly,” said Daniel Leinweber, the party’s lead producer.

“With the Trump administration threatening federal funding to Planned Parenthood — more than ever it is important to support the organizations that are doing incredible work in the women’s health sectors.”

The party, dubbed “We Support Planned Parenthood,” is set to kick off at 8 p.m. and run until 4 a.m. the next morning. The neighborhood haunt, which offers a plethora of craft beers and an intimate dancefloor, will feature seven local DJs who have all agreed to donate their time to play music for a good cause. All of the staff is also volunteering.

The gathering suggests a $20 door donation, but patrons can contribute any amount they are comfortable giving.

“The Graham prides itself on being a local neighborhood spot, hosting a variety of events every week from Open Mic and Taco Tuesdays to dance parties on the weekends,” Leinweber told the Brooklyn Eagle. “Producing benefit shows like this is our way of giving back to the community that we belong to.

“We are thankful for those of us who live and work in Brooklyn and our community and hold values such as these.”

On Feb. 9, The Graham will be hosting a similar event where all of the door and bar proceeds will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

“Going forward with the travel ban, it is clear that ACLU will need as much support as possible,” said Leinweber. “We will again be committing 100 percent proceeds from door and bar and have lined up Pool Cosby (Live), Lauren Flax and more who again will be donating their time to the cause.”

The Brooklyn Bazaar in Greenpoint will also be hosting an ACLU benefit on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. featuring musicians, comedians and speakers.

The Graham Bar is located at 151 Meserole St. and is within walking distance of the Montrose Avenue L stop, the Broadway G station and the J/M Hewes Street stop.
