A woman’s decomposed body was discovered on Tuesday morning floating in the vicinity of Gowanus Bay and Buttermilk Channel off the shoreline of Red Hook, police sources said.

NYPD officials received a call for a body floating in the water at approximately 11:21 a.m. The corpse was initially seen near Conover Street.

The NYPD Harbor Unit responded to the scene and removed the torso of an unidentified female.

She was brought to Pier 44, where medical officials pronounced her dead, according to police officers.

NYPD released an image on Wednesday of a tattoo found on the victim’s body.

At press time, the woman had not been identified and NYPD officials are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the body. The city’s medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Police officers are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.

Similar incidents have occurred on Brooklyn’s waterfront over the past few years.

A decomposed body was found in June 2016 off of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s (BBP) Pier 5 near Furman and Joralemon streets.

In August 2015, a 22-year-old man’s body was found floating in DUMBO near the Brooklyn Bridge.

In July 2014, another man’s body was found floating off of BBP’s Pier 6.
