Bishop Kearney HS hires new assistant head of school

Peter Devlin, the former assistant principal of Curtis High School on Staten Island, has been named the new assistant head of school at Bishop Kearney High School, school officials announced this week.

Dr. Margaret Lacey-Berman, Bishop Kearney’s head of school, praised Devlin’s educational background. “I have known Pete Devlin for over 30 years. He is a lifelong educator who has always placed the needs of his students’ first. He is a loyal, hardworking and compassionate administrator who will work diligently to continue the mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph,” she said in a statement.

Bishop Kearney High School, located at 2202 60th St. in Bensonhurst, is a high school for Catholic girls. The school is sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Joseph, a religious order of nuns.

Devlin holds a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University and a master’s degree from Brooklyn College. During his career as an educator, he has taught English as a second language courses and social studies classes. He has also coached baseball and coordinated student activities.

Prior to his time at Curtis High School, Devlin spent many years as a teacher at Fort Hamilton High School in Bay Ridge.

In recent years, he has served as the liaison for St. John’s University’s High School Extension Program and as the chairperson of the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators in District 31.
