John Quaglione receives three key civil service endorsements

John Quaglione, deputy chief of staff to state Sen. Marty Golden, has landed three key civil service endorsements in the midst of his run for the 43rd District City Council seat.

The City Council candidate, currently on leave of absence from Golden’s office as he campaigns for the seat, has announced endorsements from the Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association (COBA), the Uniformed Fire Officers’ Association (UFOA) and the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association (UFS), following fast on the heels of his endorsement from the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) last week.  

The 43rd District City Council seat currently held by Vincent Gentile. Gentile cannot run again due to term limits. District 43 includes Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst.

“I am humbled to have earned the support of the brave men and women who have one of the toughest jobs in law enforcement,” said Quaglione regarding the COBA endorsement. “It is not an easy job to patrol and protect our jails and maintain the safety of our inmates. They have rightly earned the nickname ‘New York’s Boldest,’” said Quaglione

In announcing Quaglione’s endorsement, COBA NYC President Elias Husamudeen said, “We trust him to keep the interests of NYC Correction Officers and their families at the forefront of his policymaking over the next four years. Now more than ever, we need leaders on the City Council who understand our contributions to this city and our significant role in maintaining public safety and who will never let us down.”

The Corrections Officers’ Benevolent Association is New York City’s second-largest law enforcement union with more than 20,000 active and retired members.

Regarding the UFS endorsement, Local 831 President Harry Nespoli said, “Quaglione’s work as a senior staff member of Sen. Marty Golden has given him a unique perspective of how to get things done in this city. We need City Hall to take us seriously, and with John on the Council, they will. We’re proud to stand with him.”

The UFS represents 6,400 active sanitation men and women and more than 8,000 retired members. They have endorsed Quaglione for the upcoming primary.

“It’s an honor to be endorsed by the hardworking members of the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association,” said Quaglione. “There’s a reason they’re called New York’s Strongest. These guys are out there every day making sure the city runs smoothly. We rely on them to keep our community clean and our roads safe during snowstorms. We’re working together to keep improving our community’s quality of life.”

Quaglione received a third civil service group endorsement from the UFOA, a group which represents 2,600 lieutenants, captains, battalion chiefs, deputy chiefs, supervising fire marshals and medical officers of the New York City Fire Department.

“We are proud to endorse John Quaglione for the 43rd City Council District in the Republican Primary,” said UFOA President James Lemonda.  “We are proud to support leaders like John Quaglione who never waver to political pressure in their staunch support of public education, public safety, first responders and the UFOA.” The UFOA unanimously endorsed Quaglione for the Sept. 12 primary.

Quaglione has previously received endorsements from Golden, the John Jay College Republicans and the Port Authority Sergeants Benevolent Association.

The other Republicans running in the GOP primary on Sept. 12 are Bob Capano, Liam McCabe and Lucretia Regina-Potter.

The Democrats running in the Democratic primary, also set for Sept. 12, are Justin Brannan, Kevin Peter Carroll, Vincent Chirico, Rev. Khader El-Yateem and Nancy Tong.
