As Downtown Brooklyn buildings rise, so do residents’ tempers
Residents of Downtown Brooklyn are fuming, as plans for more and more skyline development unfold. With projects underway such as 80 Flatbush, slated to rise to 840 feet, and 9 DeKalb, set to stand at over 1,000 feet, people are complaining of noise pollution, light obstruction and cramped sidewalks, according to the Daily News.
“With all the construction, the sidewalks are a mess,” Nicole Collins told the Daily News. Collins, who moved to the neighborhood from Texas, is now unable to see the view of Manhattan that initially drew her to the neighborhood.
Local groups like the Rockwell Place Bears Community Garden are fighting back against the development. The Garden has pointed out that in its current location, only a block north from the impending 80 Flatbush, most of its light may be blocked by the rising towers.
