Straphangers trapped one hour in Clark St. station elevator
The Nos. 2 and 3 trains’ subway station at Clark Street in Brooklyn Heights is one of the deepest underground in the entire subway system. It’s normally accessible only by elevator — there is a staircase, but it is at least ten flights and is only used in emergencies.
The elevators there, however, are prone to breakdowns. One of the worst cases occurred this past Monday morning around 10 a.m., when Talia Kovacs tweeted to MTA that she and 12 others had been stuck in the elevator for 5 minutes, according to Gothamist.
“No door. Can’t get out. It’s hot. Everyone is sweating,” she said. It took almost an hour to get them out, and before that happened, passengers started hearing loud sounds as if debris were falling on the elevator, Gothamist reported.
