THE LEDE: Happy Wednesday! A new bill could scrutinize gun buyers’ web searches, demolition of DUMBO’s Gelsey Kirkland dance school is approved, and Greenpoint could be turning into the next Williamsburg. Plus, a group of men steal beer from a Coney Island gas station, Marty Golden refuses to concede his election, and a “smart glasses” store opens in Cobble Hill. ~2ND AMENDMENT SUPPORTERS QUESTION NYC PROPOSAL TO SCRUTINIZE GUN BUYERS’ WEB SEARCHES: “This country doesn’t have a gun problem. It has a moral, mental health, synthetic drug and crime problem. There are enough laws in place already,” said gun rights advocate Tony Martin. Martin was responding to a bill proposed by Brooklyn officials that attempts to keep guns out of the hands of violent people. The legislation would authorize state or local law enforcement authorities to scrutinize the social media and internet search history of any person wanting to purchase a firearm.(via Brooklyn Eagle)

~IS GREENPOINT THE NEXT WILLIAMSBURG?: Some call it growth. Others call it gentrification. Either way, Greenpoint is changing. With that evolution comes the loss of many neighborhood gems. Earlier this month, Greenpoint lost the American Deli Market. The bodega was a staple of the area, operating for 20 years. “This makes me sad,” Will Hernandez said. “This place is an institution.” This storyline, however, is becoming all too common for Greenpoint. In the past few months, several mom-and-pop stores in the neighborhood have closed their doors after decades of business. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~DEMOLITION OF GELSEY KIRKLAND’S DANCE SCHOOL IN DUMBO APPROVED: Tear it down. The wrecking ball is headed for famous ballerina Gelsey Kirkland’s dance school in the DUMBO Historic District. On Tuesday, the city Landmarks Preservation Commission gave the owner of 29 Jay St. the go-ahead to demolish the warehouse where the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet and a theatre called the GK Arts Center are located. The property owner is planning to construct an 11-story office and retail building at the site on the corner of Jay and Plymouth streets. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~MAN JACKS BEER FROM BATH BEACH GAS STATION, BUSTS OUT BASEBALL BAT, THREATENS SHOOTING: A Heineken heist at a Bath Beach gas station ended with threats of violence over the weekend. Cops say that, at around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, a group of four men entered the Shell gas station at 2001 Cropsey Avenue, where one of them grabbed a 12-pack of beer and attempted to leave the store. Authorities say that when the clerk tried to get the perp to pay, the man pulled out a baseball bat and proceeded to say, “I have a gun and I’ll [expletive] shoot you.” (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~GOLDEN REFUSES TO CONCEDE ELECTION: It ain’t over until every last vote is counted. Perhaps taking a page out of the late New York Yankee greatYogi Berra’s playbook, Republican state Sen. Marty Golden is adopting a “It ain’t over until it’s over” stance on the results of the Nov. 6 election that he apparently lost to Democrat Andrew Gounardes. On Nov. 13, seven days after Election Day, Golden was still refusing to concede the contest to his rival. The Board of Elections was accepting absentee ballots via mail through Nov. 13. The board planned to start counting those ballots on Nov. 14. It’s unclear how long the counting process will take. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~A SHOWCASE FOR ‘SMART GLASSES’ OPENS IN COBBLE HILL: An augmented-reality eyewear company that has kept its work under wraps for several years made its retail debut in Brooklyn on Tuesday. Focals by North, which will occupy about 7,200 sq. ft. over two floors in Cobble Hill at 178 Court St., says this will be the world’s first smart-glasses store. “It’s been an exciting opportunity to launch something that’s weird, and new, and fun,” saidAdam Ketcheson, the company’s chief marketing officer. North is a Canadian startup founded in 2012. (The Bridge via Brooklyn Eagle)

~BROOKLYN CHEF’S MISSION: TO POPULARIZE DISHES MADE WITH INSECTS: Joseph Yoon, executive director of Brooklyn Bugs has a mission: to make eating insects accepted in the mainstream culinary world. Yoon, chef at Yummy Eats and Dinner Echo, first became interested in the subject in May 2017, when he was approached by artist Miru Kim, who was working on a project called “Phobia/Phagia” in which she conquers her fear of bugs by consuming them. The key to gaining people’s acceptance of insect-eating is to not serve visible insects on top of a dish. Rather, Yoon said, chefs should bake it into a product. (Forbes via Brooklyn Eagle)

~NEW 30-STORY APARTMENT TOWER COMING TO BENSONHURST: Permits have been filed for a new 30-story residential building at 1625 Shore Parkway in Bensonhurst between the Belt Parkway and Cropsey Avenue. The building’s site is about three blocks from Bensonhurst Park and three avenues away from the D train’s Bay Parkway station. The building will also be near Caesar’s Bay Shopping Center. The low-rise neighborhood, which is historically Italian-American but now also has many Asian residents, rarely sees new residential buildings. (YIMBY via Brooklyn Eagle)

EAGLE SPORTS: Caris LeVert was emerging as the Brooklyn Nets’ top candidate for All-Star consideration before suffering what initially appeared to be a season-ending injury in Minnesota Monday night. But fortunately for LeVert and the Nets, the team’s leading scorer and go-to shooter in the clutch is reportedly expected to return before the end of the 2018-19 campaign after the team orthopedist determined he had sustained a subtalar dislocation of the right foot. “Fortunately, tests performed this morning revealed that there are no fractures and only moderate ligament damage,” said Dr. Martin O’Malley.(via Brooklyn Eagle)
