A Brooklyn judge sentenced a Brownsville man 25 years to life in prison for strangling a Staten Island woman to death inside a East Williamsburg hotel.

Joseph Danclair was convicted after a jury trial in October for choking and killing Chrissy Bevelaqua in July 2015 and leaving her for dead inside the Bushwick Hotel in East Williamsburg.

“This is a tragic case in which this defendant preyed on a helpless woman, taking a mother from her four children,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. “Hopefully, today’s sentence will provide some measure of justice for her friends and family.”

Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Dineen Riviezzo sentenced 40-year-old Danclair to 25 years to life in prison on Wednesday for the second-degree murder conviction.

According to the trial testimony, Bevelaqua was found by hotel staff in a room naked on a bed with bruises to her neck and head. The mother of four died from compression of the neck and chest, said the city’s medical examiner.

Video surveillance from the hotel showed Danclair enter the hotel with Bevelaqua and later leaving alone in a livery cab.

Danclair, who was arrested months later in connection to a Manhattan homicide in September 2015, admitted to being in the hotel room. If convicted of the second murder, he faces an additional 25 years to life.
