Herd of goats temporarily escapes Halal slaughterhouse in Bushwick
Every once in a while, a cow or sheep destined for slaughter breaks free from a truck, and cops have to hunt it down. But that’s nothing compared to what happened in Bushwick around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, when more than 20 goats escaped from a pickup truck near the live slaughterhouse and halal market Vivero Primos on Wyckoff Avenue and Hancock Street.
A neighbor, Marvin Benton, noticed that “the street was covered with goats” and the truck’s driver was asleep, according to the New York Post. He called the cops, who woke up the owner, Ali Saeed. The goats were brought in from a farm in Iowa and were rounded up by 8 p.m., the Post reported.
Another neighbor, bartender Ciaran Flanagan, said, “I’m from Ireland, so I’m used to goats roaming the roads. I didn’t expect to see it here.” Meanwhile, animal rights advocate Chris Allieri told the Post, “There’s likely no happy ending for these animals.”
