Brooklyn’s first Chick-fil-A to open near Barclays Center
Chick-fil-A, the controversial fried-chicken chain, is soon to set up shop in Brooklyn, continuing its rapid spread through New York City.
The restaurant has opened six locations in just three years across the city, with five locations in Manhattan and one in Queens, but this will be its first foray into Brooklyn.
When Chick-fil-A first came to New York in 2015, the chain was still haunted by controversy following reports of its opposition to same-sex marriage. Soon after, company president and COO Dan Cathy made comments both on a radio talk show and in an interview with Biblical Recorder about the brand’s commitment to “the biblical definition of the family unit.” The LGBT-advocacy group Equality Matters reported that the company had donated nearly $2 million to anti-gay groups through its charitable arm WinShape.
