DXA Studio, a Manhattan-based architecture and design firm, has designed a two-block development that would rise in Sunset Park over the Long Island Rail Road’s freight tracks between Eighth and Fort Hamilton avenues.

“While exact specifics on what would rise above are not yet available,” YIMBY said, “the plans appear to comprise well over one million square feet of new space, with residential square footage situated atop a substantial commercial-retail component.”

YIMBY quotes the architects as saying that “The multiple phased design will include two blocks of retail on each side of the development, condominiums, office space, restaurants, a hotel, a gymnasium with pool, public park space and community facilities.”

Three 18-floor towers are slated to rise within the site. New Empire Corp. is the developer for the site. Permits have not been filed and the city approval process has not yet begun, but YIMBY believes that the progress of another major development across the street at 6028 Eighth Ave. bodes well for the new project.
