~LPC TELLS MARVEL ARCHITECTS TO CHANGE ITS DESIGN FOR 29 JAY ST. PROJECT: Bye-bye, ballet school. The owners of a DUMBO Historic District warehouse, in which famous ballerina Gelsey Kirkland’s dance school is located, plan to tear down the structure and construct an 11-story office building. On Tuesday, LPC reviewed Marvel Architects’ design for the proposed development at 29 Jay St. and sent the firm back to the drawing board for a do-over. In a hearing, several commissioners said the design of the proposed 148-foot-tall Forman Building had excessively large windows compared with the amount of masonry on its facade. (via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~DEMOCRATS STRATEGIZE TO DEFEAT GOLDEN, TAKE BACK SOUTH BROOKLYN: With the general election coming up, Democrats are seizing the opportunity to defeat Marty Golden, the sole Republican elected official left in Brooklyn. Golden, who made city headlines this summer for taking a skydiving jaunt while receiving disability pension from NYPD, is in his eighth term in the state Senate. Democratic strategists are hoping that the frustration born from Trumpism will drive the blue voters in the area to the polls on Nov. 6 to vote for Democratic challenger Andrew Gounardes. (New York Post via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~AMERICAN CITIES ARE USING BROOKLYN AS A MODERN DOWNTOWN MODEL: More and more cities across America are beginning a trajectory that includes microbreweries, coffee shops fronted by bearded baristas and homogenous interior decorating snatched from the pages of a West Elm catalogue. In other words, according columnist Justin Fox, they are becoming a lot more like Brooklyn. As Fox sees it, this isn’t all bad. The revival of America’s downtown cities is, he writes, a big upgrade from the downtown streets of the past, which were deserted after 5.pm. and dominated by chains and “mass-produced sameness.” (Bloomberg via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~PEACE OFFICERS ACCUSED OF STEALING HAIR-REMOVAL PRODUCTS FROM HOMELESS SHELTER: Three employees of a ]homeless shelter have been accused of stealing nine boxes of hair remover and seven boxes of hair-removal shower gel. Peace Officers Pradeep Roy, Donna Valentine andSequoya Zimmerman are accused of taking the items from the Tillary Street Women’s Shelter in Downtown Brooklyn. One of the officers said items that are donated to the shelter are often thrown away. But a department spokesperson said they were specifically purchased for the shelter’s residents so they wouldn’t have to use razors. (New York Post via Brooklyn Eagle)
 
~JONAS EQUITIES BUYS LATEST IN STRING OF APARTMENT-HOUSE PURCHASES: Brooklyn apartment-building investor Jonas Equities has purchased a six-story, 121-unit Sheepshead Bay building at 2355 E. 12th St. for $31.9 million. This is just the latest in a string of recent purchases by Jonas Equities. In August, the company bought two buildings, 1775 E. 18th St. in Sheepshead Bay and 140 Ocean Parkway in Kensington, for a combined $46 million. In July, Jonas bought a 66-unit building at 297 Lenox Road inFlatbush for $12.8 million. (The Real Deal via Brooklyn Eagle)
